Heyy friend,
When was the last time you cheered for yourself?
Too often, we become our own BIGGEST critics.
It might make us more productive in the short term, but research has shown that excessive self-criticism is associated with less motivation, worse self-control, and greater procrastination.
So if you can't remember the last time you cheered for yourself, then you need a high-five!
I have been trying to give myself a high-five every morning, and I gotta tell you... it feels kind of nice!
Here's how you can do it too (and NO, you can't just clap your hands together):
Make sure this is one of the first things you do every morning.
You go to the bathroom or an empty room where there is a mirror.
You take a minute to look at your reflection.
Look at your imperfections, look at everything that you are, and just be with yourself for a couple of seconds.
Next, say some positive mantra or quote that you actually believe in. For me, it's an edited version of a quote by Brene Brown: "You’re imperfect. You’re born to struggle. But you are worthy of love and belonging."
Whenever you feel ready, reach over the mirror and give yourself a high-five.
That's it!
I encourage everyone to try this habit for at least 5 days. And feel free to stop afterward if doesn't work for you.
Stay Epic,
George
